Experimental and numerical investigation on the multi-optimization of reinforcing the side members of the vehicle structure

The aim of this study is to investigate the improvement in strength a top-hat profile hollow-section beam used vehicle structure by attaching different shapes internal reinforcements. base was first considered as hat-shape which jointed flat plate using spot-welds. Three types sheet metal reinforcements were formed and attached inside beam’s structure. Then, they tested experimentally under low-velocity lateral impact. Also, numerical simulation being developed LS-DYNA explicit code validated experimental data. Valid configuration conduct an optimization on cross-sectional shape reinforcing component. Optimizations are carried out single- multi-objective methods based Genetic Algorithm approach suggested optimum solutions compared with results. Moreover, discuss feasibility applied side section vehicle’s body-in-white, realistic side-pole crash test simulated model performance improved chassis basic results presented, discussed commented upon.
